Islamabad, Pakistan and Azerbaijan are set to enhance their bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including economy, trade, energy, and connectivity, along with boosting people-to-people contacts. These initiatives were highlighted during a meeting between the Acting President of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions underscored the longstanding cultural and religious ties between the two nations, with historical connections dating back centuries. The Acting President proposed declaring Baku and Multan as sister cities to foster closer community and cultural links. He expressed contentment with the current level of cooperation and advocated for increased trade and business interactions.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of educational and parliamentary exchanges to deepen bilateral relations. Both leaders agreed on the necessity of improving connectivity and increasing people-to-people contacts, particularly in tourism, business, and education sectors, to further solidify the partnership.
Foreign Minister Bayramov reaffirmed the significance of cooperation with Pakistan, highlighting the potential benefits of enhanced connectivity and personal exchanges between the two countries. He also appreciated Pakistan’s stance and support on various international platforms, including issues related to the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ and K).
