Islamabad: In a significant meeting on Wednesday with the Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Pakistan’s Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, outlined the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan into a cashless economy. The discussions, held in Islamabad, focused on mutual interests in digitalization, e-governance, and enhancing bilateral IT and telecom relations.

According to Press Information Department, Minister Khawaja emphasized the rapid progress of Pakistan’s IT and telecommunications sectors and the ongoing digital transformation initiatives under the Prime Minister’s vision. These include efforts to digitize aspects of society, the economy, and governance, with a particular focus on promoting digital payments to drive economic growth and efficiency.

Ambassador Abdula expressed Ethiopia’s interest in strengthening ties with Pakistan in the IT field, noting the potential benefits from Pakistan’s experiences in ICT infrastructure development. Minister Khawaja reassured the full support of the Pakistani government to Ethiopia in its digitalization efforts, underscoring the importance of collaboration in advancing the IT capabilities of both nations.

The meeting, also attended by DG International Coordination Syed Jawwad Ali Sherazi, highlighted the strategic priorities for both countries in leveraging technology to enhance economic and administrative processes.
