Islamabad: Iran has expressed its interest in enhancing trade and economic collaboration with Pakistan through strategic use of the Karachi and Gwadar ports. This development was announced during the 10th session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Trade Committee, co-chaired by Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Atabak and Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Iranian Minister emphasized the significance of expanding comprehensive cooperation, particularly with Pakistan. He highlighted that negotiations on a potential Iran-Pakistan free trade agreement are making progress, with optimism for a successful conclusion in the near future.
During the session, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan underscored the importance of operationalizing joint border markets to enhance local livelihoods. He noted the mutual trust between the private sectors of both countries and stressed the need to create a seamless and predictable trading environment. The Commerce Minister also advocated for finalizing roadmaps that would elevate the economic partnership between Pakistan and Iran.
