Over 15,000 Personnel Deployed to Secure Religious Gatherings in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: In a concerted effort to ensure the safety and security of religious gatherings, the Islamabad Police has deployed over 15,000 personnel to oversee 177 processions and 929 Majalis from the start of Muharram to 19th Safar. This extensive operation is part of a comprehensive security plan directed by Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

According to Islamabad Capital Police, a control room at Safe City Islamabad has been set up to monitor all activities, with IGP Rizvi personally overseeing the security measures. Senior police officials, including all DIGs, SSPs, and AIGs, have been assigned specific duties to manage the security operations effectively. The initiative includes the formation of ten vigilance teams tasked with inspecting and monitoring the deployments at the religious events.

The security strategy also incorporates the utilization of over 3,000 cameras and drones to provide real-time surveillance of the gatherings. Quick Response Teams are on high alert to address any emergencies, and the Capital Patrol Unit is actively patrolling areas hosting processions and Majalis. To facilitate traffic management, more than 500 traffic officers have been deployed, with all relevant departments working in tandem to ensure smooth operations.

Additional measures include special training sessions for personnel and volunteers, deployment of female security squads for women’s gatherings, and separate parking arrangements for those attending the events. Police officials are conducting regular visits to Imambargahs, and citizens are urged to cooperate with the police and report any emergencies through the “Pucar-15” helpline.
