No Wheat Shortage in Pakistan as Government Vows Action on Price Hikes and Hoarding


Islamabad: The Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has confirmed that there is no wheat shortage in Pakistan and announced measures to tackle price hikes and hoarding. This was disclosed during the 9th Wheat Board meeting, which reviewed the nation’s wheat production, availability, procurement, and market prices.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by key officials, including the Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Sindh, and representatives from the Pakistan Flour Mills Association. The provincial representatives assured the meeting of adequate wheat stocks across the country.



Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted that the country’s wheat production this year is estimated to exceed last year’s by 1.36 million metric tonnes. The Board confirmed that the wheat production target has been met and that the reserves are sufficient.



The Board emphasized the importance of monitoring the wheat market and effective coordination between Federal and Provincial Governments. The Federal Minister stressed the priority of consumer protection and outlined plans to combat hoarding and ensure affordable wheat prices through collaborative efforts with provincial authorities.



Authorities were instructed to maintain coordination, enhance market monitoring, and address any disruptions in wheat supply or unjustified price increases promptly.
