National Assembly Approves 18,771 Billion Rupee Budget for Next Fiscal Year


ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly has passed the federal budget for the next fiscal year, setting the total outlay at 18,771 billion rupees. The budget focuses on enhancing economic growth and providing tax relief, with specific allocations for various sectors.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Finance Bill, 2026, was passed with amendments following a motion by Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb. The financial proposals will take effect from July 1, 2026. The budget aims for an economic growth rate of four percent and anticipates an inflation rate of 8.2 percent for the upcoming financial year.



The Federal Board of Revenue’s revenue collection is projected at 15,264 billion rupees, with a non-tax revenue target of 5,336 billion rupees. Notable allocations include 1,000 billion rupees for the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) and 838 billion rupees for the Benazir Income Support Program. Over sixty percent of the Federal PSDP is designated for transport and communications, water resources, and energy. The remaining funds are earmarked for higher education, agriculture, health, and information technology.



The budget also proposes relief measures for the salaried class, and the agriculture, construction, and export sectors. The National Assembly has adjourned and will reconvene tomorrow at 11 a.m.
