Karachi: In a significant move to bring electricity to underserved regions, Provincial Minister for Energy, Development and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced that solar panels will be deployed in areas lacking electricity. This initiative aligns with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision of universal electricity access. Shah made the announcement during the inauguration ceremony of the electricity supply in Abdullah Rind Goth, Manghopir Town, where prominent figures such as PPP MNA Shahida Rehmani and Manghopir Town Chairman Nawaz Ali Brohi were present.
According to a statement by Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), Abdullah Rind Goth, a settlement predating Pakistan, is receiving electricity for the first time, benefitting over 450 homes through K-Electric. The initiative is part of a broader effort to extend modern amenities to all regions, with plans underway to establish a solar park nearby.
The minister highlighted the commencement of distributing 200,000 solar systems, with a larger plan to provide 500,000 solar systems starting this year. The solar power initiative aims to bring electricity to areas where traditional power lines have yet to reach.
Moreover, the solar park is expected to offer technical training and employment opportunities to local residents, contributing to economic development. Shah emphasized that providing affordable electricity is a priority for the citizens of Karachi, alongside the regularization of villages.
Reflecting on the broader vision, Shah reiterated that industries are crucial, but the primary goal remains providing electricity to all villages. He concluded the ceremony by visiting a local shrine, where he prayed for peace in the country.
