Islamabad: Eight Muslim countries have expressed support for the United Kingdom’s decision to prohibit the import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The decision also includes restrictions on services linked to these settlements.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE issued a joint statement welcoming the UK’s decision. They expressed hope that this move would inspire the international community to take similar actions in accordance with international law and hold accountable those involved in illegal settlement activities.
The ministers also welcomed a Joint Statement on the Two-State Solution from the Foreign Ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. This statement confirms their intent to introduce restrictions on trade with illegal settlements or consider other measures in line with national procedures. The ministers urged the international community to adopt measures to end activities supporting illegal Israeli settlements.
The joint statement emphasized that the announced intentions align with international law and United Nations resolutions. The ministers reiterated their call for Israel to reverse actions related to settlement activities and other measures altering the geographic and demographic character of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The statement highlighted Gaza as an integral part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and called for implementing US President Donald Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict. This implementation aims to ensure security, address humanitarian needs, facilitate reconstruction, and lay the groundwork for lasting peace.
The ministers stressed that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved through the two-state solution, envisioning an independent Palestinian State based on the 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
