ISLAMABAD: Misbah Khar, an advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador to the ISC, highlighted the urgent necessity for Pakistan to embrace electric vehicle (EV) adoption during her address at the “Breathe Pakistan” forum. She emphasized that transitioning to climate-friendly transport is crucial for combating air pollution, reducing carbon emissions, and ensuring a sustainable future.
According to Senate of Pakistan, Khar pointed out the significance of coordinated initiatives to promote environmentally friendly vehicles. These efforts include policy incentives, developing EV infrastructure, and fostering public-private partnerships. She noted that such measures could improve urban air quality, decrease reliance on imported fuels, and contribute to economic growth.
The “Breathe Pakistan” forum, organized by DawnMedia in collaboration with the United Nations, the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Pakistan, and the Asian Development Bank, gathered policymakers, industry leaders, environmental experts, and development partners. The participants deliberated on strategies for sustainable mobility and environmental protection.
Forum participants underscored the importance of transitioning to electric mobility as a means to address environmental challenges and fulfill Pakistan’s climate commitments. The involvement of the private sector, including companies like Capital Smart Motors, was acknowledged in the promotion of EV adoption and the advancement of green transport solutions.
Speakers at the event stressed the necessity for a comprehensive policy framework to bolster EV adoption through incentives, expansion of charging infrastructure, and awareness campaigns. They also highlighted the integration of renewable energy, sustainable urban planning, and green financing mechanisms as crucial for long-term environmental sustainability.
