Islamabad: Minister of State for Finance and Revenue, Mr. Bilal Azhar Kayani, led a consultative meeting with representatives from the Daraz and Alibaba Group at the Ministry of Finance, aiming to engage with key stakeholders in the lead-up to the Federal Budget FY 2026-27. The meeting focused on the e-commerce sector’s role in Pakistan’s economic framework and explored ways to enhance the digital economy.
According to Press Information Department, the delegation from Daraz and Alibaba included Mr. Ben Yi, Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Kamran Pervaiz, Director of Corporate Affairs, and Mr. Umar Usmani, Director of Government Affairs. Senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Policy Office also participated in the discussions, which addressed the regulatory environment, business facilitation, and compliance mechanisms within the e-commerce sector.
The meeting was part of the government’s efforts to incorporate industry perspectives into its policy-making process. Discussions highlighted the importance of digital platforms in promoting entrepreneurship and market access and emphasized the sector’s potential in supporting economic documentation and digital transformation.
Minister Kayani stressed the government’s intention to align proposals for the upcoming budget with broader fiscal and economic priorities. The government aims to maintain a policy framework that bolsters economic activity and investment while ensuring sustainable growth.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on the need for ongoing collaboration between the government and the private sector.
