Mayor of Karachi Reopens Landhi Sports Complex After Three Decades

Karachi: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has reopened the Landhi Sports Complex after a 30-year hiatus, following its renovation. The revitalized facility is now available for public use. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, KMC City Council Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Jaman Durwan, elected representatives, and party members.

The Mayor stated that sincere intentions facilitate progress in addressing public issues, and expressed optimism about the current administration’s efforts.

Mayor Wahab also highlighted the importance of municipal governance in resolving citizens’ problems, pointing out that Karachi’s challenges have been neglected for decades. He noted that previous administrations since 1993 failed to address these issues, whereas the present administration is implementing practical solutions.

The Mayor mentioned that the swimming pool at the sports complex has been upgraded to modern standards, and memberships will be made available at affordable rates to increase accessibility. Additionally, he announced the construction of a new sports complex in Baldia Town on 25 acres, undertaken by representatives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Wahab reaffirmed the Pakistan Peoples Party’s commitment to the rule of law and transparency in development projects. He dismissed negative rumors about the Hub Canal, stating that a request has been made to the federal government to enhance Karachi’s water allocation.

He also commented on political matters, acknowledging the appointment of a senior PML-N worker as Governor Sindh and critiquing past political leadership for their inadequate performance. Plans were announced to establish memorials for martyrs at Empress Market and to preserve the historic globe of Islamia College at Hassan Square. The public was invited to provide input on historical monuments to enable city cooperation.

The Mayor addressed criticisms aimed at him, attributing them to his affiliation with the PPP. He urged all political entities to collaborate for Karachi’s development, expressing a proactive stance towards the city’s progress despite existing challenges.
