Mayor Karachi Reinforces Protection of City’s Recreational Spaces

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the city’s parks, recreational areas, playgrounds, and public resources, emphasizing their importance as a public trust and a top priority for the administration.

According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab made these remarks during a meeting of the Department of Recreation and Safari Park. The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali Abro, Senior Director Recreation Imran Rajput, and other relevant officials.

Mayor Wahab instructed that all contracts and tenders for recreational projects should be finalized three months before expiration to ensure work begins on time. He also stressed the need for the immediate addition of new animals, including zebras, to Karachi Zoo and the organization of educational tours for school children.

He directed the development of various recreational projects on the 132-acre land of Safari Park. Plans for a water park and sports complex are also to be expedited to enhance recreational offerings for citizens.

Karachi Zoo currently generates PKR 3.756 million monthly from entry fees, while Safari Park’s annual revenue target is PKR 63.9 million, with 51% already achieved this fiscal year.

Mayor Wahab highlighted ongoing development projects at Karachi Zoo and Safari Park aimed at increasing public engagement. Coordination with experts in Thailand is underway for a medical examination of the elephant at Safari Park. He urged young officers to work with dedication, noting their performance impacts the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s reputation.

“Officers failing to deliver their responsibilities will face strict action. Our focus is on providing better services to citizens and improving KMC’s image,” he stated.
