New Delhi, In Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, a young Muslim man was apprehended by the police for allegedly ‘promoting enmity’ after he performed Azan, the Islamic call to prayer, at a centuries-old mosque.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the individual identified as Omar Qureshi, a resident of Jalalabad, was detained following his Azan at a 250-year-old mosque in Ahata Gausgarh village. The incident gained attention after Qureshi posted a video of the Azan, which subsequently went viral on social media. He was arrested under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes.
