Majority of Pakistanis Optimistic About Economic Future for Next Generation, Survey Finds

Islamabad: A recent survey conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan reveals that a significant majority of Pakistanis expect the next generation to enjoy better economic conditions than their own. The survey, which sampled opinions from across the nation, reports that 62% of respondents are hopeful about enhanced economic prospects for the younger generation, with particular optimism noted among young adults.

According to Gilani Research Foundation, the survey posed the question: “In your opinion, will the next generation (those recently born) be better off, worse off, or about the same compared to you in the following aspects? – In terms of economic status?” The results show that 62% of participants believe the next generation will be ‘better off’, while 24% feel they will be ‘worse off’. Meanwhile, 7% anticipate conditions will remain ‘about the same’, 3% were uncertain, and 4% did not provide a response.

The findings, derived from a sample of 761 respondents across urban and rural regions of Pakistan’s four provinces, were gathered via telephonic surveys conducted between March 26 and April 1, 2026. The survey holds an error margin of approximately ± 2-3 percent at the 95% confidence level. The results highlight public expectations concerning economic mobility across generations and suggest potential avenues for policymakers to support opportunities for youth and promote equitable economic growth.
