Lahore Commissioner Enforces Strict Standards for Development Projects

Lahore: In a bid to enhance the quality and efficiency of urban development, Lahore Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood has set forth strict guidelines for the approval of new development schemes, emphasizing the need for thorough price variation checks and comprehensive population surveys.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab announcement issued on 10 September 2024, during a recent meeting of the Divisional Development Working Committee, Commissioner Maqsood reviewed several ongoing projects across Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib. He underscored the imperative of adhering to high standards and timely completion of these projects, asserting that no project would proceed without a detailed justification of its budgetary estimates and an updated population survey to ensure its viability and necessity.

Particularly, the commissioner highlighted that two development schemes were sent back for re-evaluation because they lacked the required comprehensive population surveys a now mandatory criterion for road-related projects. These projects will undergo further scrutiny by the District Development Working Committee before any approvals are granted.

The meeting saw the participation of key regional development officers including Director (Dev) Lahore Javed Rashid Chauhan and Deputy Commissioner Nankana Sahib Muhammad Taslim Rao, reflecting a collaborative effort to streamline development processes and enhance infrastructural growth in the region.

This rigorous approach marks a significant step towards ensuring that development projects not only meet the current urban demands but are also aligned with sustainable growth objectives.
