KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will implement a digital payment system using the Raast platform, marking a significant shift in its financial management practices. The initiative, led by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, positions KMC as the first municipal body in Pakistan to transition all payments to electronic transfers.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the new system will commence with the financial year starting in July 2026. Payments to KMC vendors, contractors, and approved beneficiaries will be directly transferred into their bank accounts. The Mayor stated that this digital shift is expected to enhance transparency, governance, and financial discipline within the organization.
The Raast payment system aims to ensure secure, fast, and real-time fund transfers, minimizing the reliance on traditional paperwork and manual procedures. Mayor Wahab emphasized that this move is a significant advancement in municipal financial operations, focusing on effective financial monitoring and cost reduction.
KMC’s adoption of the cashless financial model, in line with the Accountant General Sindh’s approved payment system, represents a milestone in establishing a modern financial infrastructure. On the occasion of the announcement, KMC Financial Advisor Gulzar Abro elaborated on the project’s features, implementation strategy, and timeline.
