Islamabad: An analysis of 12 national newspapers in Pakistan during May 2026 has identified Foreign Relations as the most discussed theme, dominating 19% of opinion columns and editorials. The study, which analyzed 1,809 pieces, also highlighted the Economy and Culture & Tourism as significant topics, receiving 14% and 13% of coverage, respectively.
According to Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, which conducted the Monthly Newspaper Content Analysis Research Study, the findings are part of ongoing efforts to understand opinion leaders’ views on national and international issues. The analysis, now in its 73rd edition, is supervised by Executive Director Bilal I. Gilani. The study compared content from both English and Urdu newspapers, noting differences in thematic coverage. Foreign Relations led in both languages, while the Economy was more prominent in English publications.
The study further detailed subcategories within the Foreign Relations theme, with US-Iran Relations capturing 36% of content. The analysis also noted shifts from April to May, including a decrease in coverage of the US-Israel war on Iran and an increase in topics such as the Economy and Culture & Tourism. This comprehensive analysis aims to foster a better understanding of media dynamics and its role in shaping public discourse in Pakistan.
