KMC Orders Establishment of Heatwave Wards in Karachi Hospitals

Karachi: In response to an anticipated severe heatwave, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced emergency measures to protect citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, from potential health risks. On the directive of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, all hospitals under KMC’s jurisdiction have been instructed to set up special wards to manage heatwave-related cases.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Mayor has mandated that the Senior Director of Medical Health and Services and all Medical Superintendents prioritize the health of the elderly, children, and outdoor workers during the extreme heat conditions. Hospitals are required to ensure facilities are in place for the prompt treatment of those affected by the heatwave.

The Mayor has also called for uninterrupted electricity and efficient cooling systems in these wards. Hospitals must have a steady supply of essential medicines, IV fluids, ORS, and other emergency medical provisions. Furthermore, trained medical professionals and paramedical staff should be available at all times, with emergency response protocols and triage systems prepared to deliver immediate assistance.

Additionally, the Mayor has instructed that patients and their attendants have access to clean drinking water and that hospitals conduct awareness campaigns on precautionary measures. To maintain oversight, daily reports on the situation are to be submitted, ensuring that citizens receive timely and sufficient medical care throughout the heatwave.
