ISLAMABAD, Representatives from the Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry engaged in a productive meeting with Dr. Gohar Ejaz, Pakistan’s Minister of Commerce, focusing on strengthening cooperation between the government and the private sector, particularly in the Gems and Jewellery sector.
According to the Press Information Department, the meeting in Islamabad aimed to discuss revitalization strategies for the Gems and Jewellery sector. The Chamber underscored the necessity of a comprehensive policy framework to facilitate the sector’s growth and development. Dr. Ejaz emphasized the significance of public-private partnerships in driving research, innovation, and productivity enhancements in this area.
Reinforcing the government’s dedication to national interests, Dr. Ejaz assured the Chamber that Pakistan is committed to maintaining legal trade mechanisms with all countries and is supportive of streamlining export procedures. The discussion also highlighted the potential in the halal meat market, with the Chamber seeking support for reviving slaughterhouses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Dr. Ejaz acknowledged the importance of industry insights in policy formation and proposed collaborative efforts to devise effective strategies. The Chamber suggested organizing an International Trade Summit to augment exports from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while transit trade was discussed as a means to empower the local business community in meeting the demands of Central Asian countries.
Dr. Ejaz called on the business community to contribute to the national economy by adhering to government policies and fulfilling tax obligations. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment from both the government and the private sector to work within existing constraints to promote economic growth and protect national interests.
