Kazakhstan and Pakistan to Enhance Cultural Ties with Upcoming Musical Collaborations


Islamabad: The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, Yerzhan Kistafin, met with Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, to discuss expanding cultural cooperation between the two nations.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting, held on Tuesday, focused on strengthening bilateral cultural and heritage ties. Member Punjab Assembly Jahanzaib Khan Khichi was also present. The Ambassador proposed sending a Pakistani cultural troupe to Astana for joint performances before Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming visit. The ensemble is expected to perform a musical piece to greet the Prime Minister.



The visit follows an invitation extended by the President of Kazakhstan during his recent trip to Pakistan. In response, the Federal Minister assured that a troupe comprising singers and a Qawwali group would be dispatched, showcasing Pakistan’s renowned musical heritage.



Secretary National Heritage and Culture Division, Asad Rehman Gillani, noted that Pakistan is promoting its historical heritage, including Gandhara and Mohenjo-Daro, internationally and will do so during the Astana visit. Additionally, the establishment of a “Centre for Musical Instruments” in Islamabad at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts was agreed upon, pending formal approval.



The Ambassador highlighted strengthened educational ties and the intent to focus more on cultural relations. Minister Khichi confirmed Pakistan’s commitment to these efforts and support for existing cultural agreements. Plans were also discussed for a joint exhibition in Astana, with artefacts selected from Lahore Museum and the National Museum Karachi.



The Ambassador invited Minister Khichi to Astana, which he accepted, while extending an invitation for a Kazakh cultural troupe to visit Pakistan. Both leaders emphasized the significance of cultural diplomacy and Pakistan’s priority in strengthening relations with Central Asian countries.
