Karamullah Waqasi Reaffirms PPP’s Commitment to Transform Karachi into a Model City

Karachi: Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi, has stated that Pakistan’s overall progress is intrinsically linked to the development of Karachi. Emphasizing the PPP leadership’s commitment, Waqasi outlined comprehensive measures being taken to ensure the city’s prosperity, with a significant budget allocated for development projects and a target completion year of 2026.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Waqasi highlighted that under the leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, practical steps are being undertaken to transform Karachi into a modern and developed metropolis. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah is reportedly taking a keen interest in resolving the city’s long-standing issues and ensuring the timely completion of development projects.

Waqasi noted that under the leadership of Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, the city’s landscape is changing, with 2026 designated as the year of completion for major development initiatives. The spokesperson expressed confidence that ongoing projects across the city will be completed within stipulated timelines to provide improved facilities to citizens.

He revealed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is allocating approximately Rs68 billion this year for development projects. The mayor’s frequent visits to different areas and close monitoring of development work demonstrate the administration’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure.

Waqasi reported that development work is progressing in key areas, including Shadman Town and Shahrah-e-Bhutto, with a target to complete these projects by the end of June for visible improvements across all towns of the city.

Referring to a high-level meeting chaired by the Sindh Chief Minister, Waqasi stated that development projects worth over Rs140 billion are underway across the province. Major road infrastructure projects, including the Sindh Coastal Highway, Mehran Highway, and Rohri-Guddu Road, are expected to boost economic activity.

He emphasized the Sindh government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, ensuring transparency, and maintaining high standards in development work. Projects related to roads, energy, and other basic facilities aim to enhance industrial and commercial activities.

In conclusion, Waqasi reiterated that Karachi, as the economic hub of Pakistan, serves as the backbone of the national economy. He reaffirmed the commitment of the government, local bodies, and citizens to collectively work towards transforming Karachi into a model city.
