Pakistan’s President Highlights the Enduring Importance of Books on World Book Day

ISLAMABAD: On World Book Day, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan emphasized the enduring significance of books in the face of rapidly advancing technology, particularly artificial intelligence. The annual event, marked with enthusiasm across educational and public institutions in Pakistan, aims to promote reading habits and raise awareness about the importance of books as a source of guidance and knowledge.

According to Press Information Department, the President underscored that books continue to play a crucial role in enhancing knowledge and wisdom, developing intellectual capacity, and contributing to societal progress. He highlighted the misconception that artificial intelligence has made books obsolete, asserting instead that books remain foundational for clear thinking and informed decision-making, especially in a country where the quality of education and institutional capacity vary.

The President remarked that books are not relics of the past but vital tools for nurturing independent thought and cultural continuity. He encouraged the use of artificial intelligence as an aid rather than a replacement for deep reading and critical thinking. Stressing the personal and societal benefits of reading, he noted that books introduce readers to the achievements and failures of great individuals, offering valuable lessons for future planning and personal development.

In Pakistan, World Book Day is celebrated with fervor, with initiatives led by the National Book Foundation to foster a culture of reading. The foundation organizes large-scale book fairs that attract thousands, aiming to instill a lasting interest in reading among the new generation. The President called for continued efforts to emphasize the importance of books and create opportunities for young people to engage with reading, contributing to both personal and national advancement.
