Karachi Port Trust Achieves Record Cargo Handling Volume in 138-Year History


Islamabad: The Karachi Port Trust has set a new record for annual cargo handling in its 138-year history, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced on Sunday. The milestone is seen as a reflection of the expanding maritime sector and improvements in port efficiency.



According to Press Information Department, the Karachi Port Trust surpassed its previous record of 54.685 million tonnes of cargo handled within the current fiscal year. The minister attributed this achievement to enhanced operational efficiency, effective management, and increased port capacity. He emphasized that this accomplishment signifies progress in Pakistan’s maritime economy, port infrastructure, and trade, highlighting the success of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs’ reform efforts.



Junaid Chaudhry extended congratulations to KPT Chairman Rear Admiral (R) Shahid Ahmed, the port’s officers and employees, and other stakeholders. He noted that the achievement was the result of coordinated planning, teamwork, and sustained efforts. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to modernizing ports, expanding capacity, and improving logistics infrastructure to elevate Pakistan’s status as a regional maritime and trade hub.



KPT Chairman Shahid Ahmed also congratulated the workforce, attributing the success to the organization’s professionalism, effective strategy, and teamwork. He expressed a commitment to further enhancing the port’s operational performance and competitiveness.
