Karachi Port Handles 74,603 Tonnes Cargo, 19 Ships Queue for Arrival: Junaid Anwar Chaudhry


ISLAMABAD: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) is maintaining a robust operational pace, with 19 vessels slated to arrive on Sunday, according to Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.



According to Press Information Department, Chaudhry detailed the activity at the port, noting that as of Saturday morning, 14 vessels were berthed while seven ships had departed. Expected arrivals include container ships such as OOCL Nagoya and APL Yangshan, general cargo vessels like Hemma Bhum, and liquid cargo tankers such as M.T. Shalimar. Meanwhile, the Spirit of Bertram is scheduled to set sail.



In the 24 hours ending Saturday evening, KPT handled 74,603 metric tonnes of cargo. This included 45,171 tonnes of containerised cargo, 11,944 tonnes of bulk cargo, 6,114 tonnes of clinker exports, and 10,352 tonnes of liquid cargo. The vessels docked at the port carried various goods, including lentils, rice, chemicals, and clinkers.



The minister emphasized KPT’s crucial role in global supply chains, underscoring the port’s efficiency in supporting Pakistan’s maritime trade and energy supply chains. Chaudhry remarked on the consistent vessel movements and efficient cargo handling as indicators of KPT’s reliability, contributing to national economic efficiency.
