Karachi, Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, affirmed the completion of projects initiated by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), highlighting the ongoing rehabilitation of Manzoor Colony’s drainage and sewerage system. He addressed these commitments during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the storm water drain and sewage line repair and rehabilitation project in Manzoor Colony.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab, while laying the foundation stone alongside Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, emphasized the end of politics based on panic, fear, and roguery in Karachi. He assured that the PPP is functioning without discrimination across all regions. The rehabilitation of the Manzoor Colony drain, costing 246 million rupees, aims to alleviate the community’s challenges during the monsoon season. This two-kilometer-long drain project, part of the Karachi Mega Project, is expected to be completed ahead of schedule.
Mayor Wahab further detailed the drain’s construction, extending from Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Chowk to Hindu Para, addressing a longstanding issue of drain overflow in Manzoor Colony. The strategy for the project involves rapid completion while considering all technical aspects. He also mentioned the foundation of a new bridge on Korangi Causeway, another initiative to mitigate road closures during rainy days. Wahab highlighted the active engagement of the Mayor’s and Deputy Mayor’s offices in various districts, including the upcoming inauguration of a cricket stadium in Sherpao Colony.
In his address, Mayor Wahab also spoke about broader political and infrastructural issues, questioning the delays and budget allocations for the K4 project by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and challenging the PML-N on the Kala Bagh Dam. He stressed that the PPP government’s decision to allocate 25 crore rupees to each town in Karachi, including those under the administration of Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI, demonstrates the PPP’s impartial approach to public service. Wahab urged the public to hold all parties accountable for their promises and actions, reiterating the PPP’s commitment to ongoing projects and the improvement and development of Karachi under Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s leadership.
