Karachi, In anticipation of Shab-e-Barat, an important night in the Islamic calendar where families visit the graves of their loved ones, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has issued directives to ensure that citizens face no difficulties during their visits to the graveyards. The Mayor emphasized the importance of cleanliness, adequate lighting, and water availability within and around the cemetery premises and ordered that the surrounding areas be kept free of sewerage and debris. This announcement was made during an emergency tour of the city’s graveyards, accompanied by key municipal officials and elected representatives.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Mayor’s instructions came as part of a comprehensive review of the preparations for Shab-e-Barat. The tour included visits to Essa Nagri Graveyard in East District, Sakhi Hassan Graveyard in Central District, and Muhammad Shah Graveyard in North Karachi. The Director of Cemetery KMC briefed the Mayor about the arrangements in place for the occasion. Mayor Wahab also took the opportunity to engage with citizens visiting the graveyards, listening to their concerns and ensuring that necessary improvements would be made where needed.
Mayor Wahab stressed the significance of facilitating the public on such a solemn occasion, noting that a large number of citizens are expected to visit graveyards on Shab-e-Barat. He reiterated that it is the responsibility of the local bodies to provide these facilities and assured that KMC is actively working to enhance the conditions in its managed graveyards to honor the religious observances of the community.
