Karachi Launches Major Infrastructure Project to Transform Sakhi Hassan Street

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced a significant development project aimed at transforming Sakhi Hassan Street into a dual carriageway while upgrading the drainage system to mitigate flooding issues. The initiative, part of a broader Rs. 68 billion infrastructure improvement plan, is expected to enhance traffic flow and local business activities.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the project is a response to longstanding issues of rainwater flooding in the Sakhi Hassan Graveyard and surrounding localities. The project, which costs approximately Rs. 140 million, includes road rehabilitation and drainage improvements, and is part of a larger program to construct and rehabilitate 26 roads throughout the city. The initiative is seen as a critical step toward resolving infrastructure challenges exacerbated by rainwater from hilly areas.

Mayor Wahab laid the foundation stone for this project in North Nazimabad Town, emphasizing the importance of practical steps over political rhetoric. He noted that the project is part of Package-08, which seeks to expand the scope of development activities, providing better travel facilities and an effective drainage system. The dual carriageway will span 0.883 kilometers and 30 feet in width, with corresponding drainage line repairs to improve rainwater disposal.

The Mayor, accompanied by Pakistan Peoples Party leader Masarrat Niazi and other officials, reiterated the commitment to complete ongoing mega projects swiftly to offer relief to Karachi’s citizens. Despite facing various institutional challenges, Mayor Wahab affirmed that development work is progressing rapidly under his administration, focusing on resolving the city’s infrastructure issues through practical solutions rather than engaging in political point-scoring.
