JIH Chief Warns Against Demolition of Mosques, Says It Threatens India’s Secularism

Kozhikode, The chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Syed Sadatullah Husaini, has voiced serious concerns over the ongoing demolition of mosques, madrasas, and other Muslim sites in India, stating that such actions pose a significant threat to the Muslim identity and the country’s secular fabric. During a “Resist Hindutva” rally organized by JIH’s Kerala unit, Husaini highlighted the adverse effects of these demolitions on communal harmony and the secular ethos of India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Husaini’s speech at the rally underscored the broader implications of the demolition drive, which has been witnessed in various parts of New Delhi and other states. He emphasized the danger it poses not only to the Muslim community but also to the foundational principles of secularism and pluralism in India. Husaini called for a strong resistance against communalism, hatred, and racism, citing the historical observation by British historian Arnold Toynbee that civilizations succumb to internal decay rather than external forces, to illustrate the destructive impact of fostering hatred over pursuing development and progress.

The JIH chief pointed out the alarming normalization of hate speech by political figures and the selective application of laws, which, in his view, erode trust in the country’s institutions and judicial integrity. The demolition of historic mosques, such as the 600-year-old Akhonji mosque in South Delhi’s Mehrauli area, was highlighted as a particularly egregious example of how communal politics endanger not only the Muslim community but also the rule of law and judicial fairness in India.

In his call to action, Husaini stressed the importance of resilience, dialogue, and the promotion of love and service as means to counteract adversity. He emphasized the critical role of educational and economic empowerment in resisting oppression and maintaining religious freedom. Concluding his address, Husaini declared resistance against injustice a moral and religious duty, urging citizens to unite in opposition to any form of atrocity directed at a specific community.
