Jaffarabad Responds to Drainage Crack Amid Monsoon Pressure

Jaffarabad: Emergency repairs are underway in Jaffarabad district after a significant crack developed in Temple’s Drain RD 6+250. The incident, which occurred under the cover of night, prompted swift action from the local irrigation department, guided by directives from higher authorities, to address the heightened risks posed by the monsoon season.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Executive Engineer Irrigation Drainage Mudassar Zafar Khosa, alongside Superintending Engineer Canals Abdul Hameed Mengal, oversaw the urgent repair efforts. A large team of department staff, equipped with heavy machinery, was deployed to fill the crack with suitable irrigation materials, aiming to fortify the drainage system against further damage.

Mengal emphasized the need for concrete measures not only to seal the crack but also to strengthen other vulnerable sections of the drainage system, which is currently experiencing increased pressure from continuous monsoon rains. Khosa noted that following the orders from Provincial Irrigation Minister Mir Mohammad Sadiq Imrani and Provincial Secretary Apbashi Hafiz Abdul Majid, their teams are diligently working to mitigate the impact of the rains and potential flood threats, particularly in areas critical to rice crop irrigation.

The response efforts highlight the broader challenges faced by the region’s irrigation infrastructure due to seasonal heavy rains, which have led to increased water pressure and subsequent structural vulnerabilities. The ongoing work aims to ensure the safety of both life and property by addressing these issues promptly.
