Indian Police Block E-Rickshaw Protest March in Jammu

Jammu: Indian police successfully blocked a protest march organized by the Mata Vaishno Devi E-Rickshaw and E-Auto Union in Jammu and Kashmir. The demonstrators were en route to the Governor House to present a memorandum to Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the protest was sparked by a recent directive from the Transport Commissioner, which set E-Rickshaw fares at Rs 10 per kilometer. Union members expressed dissatisfaction with the fare cap and were advocating for a revision.

The protest was led by union president Gourav Kapoor. Participants gathered at Bikram Chowk before proceeding towards the Governor House in a large procession, complete with slogans and placards. Their objective was to urge Lt. Governor Sinha to address their grievances.

Police intervened and prevented the procession from advancing. Despite attempts by the protesters to bypass the police blockade, the authorities detained the union president, Gourav Kapoor, and dispersed the crowd.
