ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, visited Huawei’s Global Service Center in Islamabad, underscoring Pakistan’s potential as a burgeoning hub for global technology services. The visit included a briefing on the center’s operations, a tour of the facility, and interactions with Pakistani engineers and technology professionals. She was welcomed by Mr. Ethan Sun, CEO Huawei Pakistan, Mr. Ahmed Bilal Masud, CEO AI & Cloud, Huawei Pakistan, and the senior management of the Global Service Center.
According to Press Information Department, Minister Shaza Fatima emphasized the significant role the Huawei Global Service Center plays in showcasing Pakistan’s capacity to deliver high-value digital services to international markets. She highlighted the model as “exports without shipping containers,” where services are provided without physical exports. The Minister noted the young demographic of Pakistan, with nearly 68 percent of the population under 30, and stressed the importance of harnessing this demographic advantage into skilled human capital for global economic prospects.
Referencing the Huawei-Pakistan training partnership established during the Prime Minister’s visit to China, Minister Shaza Fatima lauded Huawei’s commitment to training 300,000 young Pakistanis in ICT skills. She advocated for enhanced collaboration between government, industry, and academia to develop a sustainable technology talent pool and connect Pakistani youth with international opportunities. The Minister also acknowledged Huawei’s efforts in technical capacity building through its ICT Academies and encouraged further investment and exploration of establishing a research and development center in Pakistan.
During her interaction with women engineers at the center, the Minister recognized their contributions to Pakistan’s digital economy and emphasized the need for more opportunities for women in the technology sector.
Mr. Ethan Sun expressed Huawei’s pride in contributing to Pakistan’s digital development by enhancing local technical expertise and creating opportunities for Pakistani professionals in the global digital economy. The Huawei Global Service Center in Islamabad acts as a critical hub for global technology operations, providing remote technical support, network operations, service assurance, and other advanced ICT services to international clients, thereby enabling Pakistani engineers and professionals to engage in global technology operations locally.
