Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to the democratic right of citizens to access information, joining the global observance of the International Day for Universal Access to Information. The day is themed “Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The Role of Access to Information in Addressing Information Disorder.”

According to Press Information Department, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of providing accurate and timely information to empower citizens and promote transparency. The proliferation of false information in the digital age presents significant challenges, underscoring the need for rigorous fact-checking and responsible communication.

The Government of Pakistan aims to strengthen communication between public institutions and citizens using modern technologies. Efforts include digitizing government records to facilitate public access and support the constitutional guarantee of information access under Article 19-A. The Pakistan Information Commission plays a key role in safeguarding this right and addressing related complaints.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed confidence in the collaboration of government, media, civil society, and citizens to uphold information integrity and foster a transparent society.
