GSMA Digital Nation Summit to be Held on August 7 in Islamabad


Islamabad, The Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, chaired a curtain raiser meeting for the upcoming ‘GSMA Digital Nation Summit’ at the Ministry of IT on Tuesday. The GSMA, in collaboration with the Ministry of IT and Telecom, will organize the GSMA Digital Nation Summit in Islamabad on August 7, 2024.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting included the Secretary IT Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood, Head of GSMA APAC Julian Gorman, and Country Lead of GSMA Saira Faisal. During the meeting, an official announcement was made for the Digital Nation Summit. The chair was briefed about the summit’s goals, themes, and expected outcomes.



Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima stated that the Digital Nation Summit marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s journey towards becoming a digitally empowered nation. She emphasized the government’s aspiration for Pakistan to evolve into a knowledge-based economy where innovation and technology drive economic growth and enhance governance. She highlighted that digital transformation is essential for national progress, as embracing digital technologies can enhance productivity, foster innovation, and ensure inclusive growth.



Shaza Fatima reiterated the present government’s full commitment to supporting digital innovation and infrastructure development, and noted that the GSMA Digital Nation Summit is a testament to this collective commitment to a digital future. The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary MoITT Aisha Humera Moriani, Member Telecom Muhammad Jahanzeb Rahim, CEO of Jazz Aamir Ibrahim, President and Group CEO of PTCL and Ufone Hatem Bamatraf, and other representatives from the telecom industry.
