Karachi, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori emphasized the potential of tape ball cricket as a means to transform street boys into star athletes, committing to support measures that promote this sport and unearth hidden talent in the streets of Karachi. This declaration was made during the trophy unveiling and player drafting ceremony for the third edition of the Karachi Tapball Premier League.
According to the Press Secretary to the Governor of Sindh, the ceremony was attended by notable figures, including legendary cricketer Javed Miandad, former Test cricketers Mushtaq Muhammad, Sadiq Muhammad, Haroon Al Rasheed, various Consul Generals, former Pakistan team captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Zubair Naseer of Badr Expo Solutions. Governor Tesori stated that tape ball cricket is integral to Karachi’s sports culture, especially due to the lack of available grounds, compelling youth to play in streets and alleys. He underscored the importance of fostering healthy activities among the youth and expressed hope that the Karachi Tapball Premier League would play a crucial role in nurturing new talent.
Governor Tesori noted that many of Karachi’s youth progress in sports by playing tape ball cricket, a sentiment echoed by the attending cricket legends, who acknowledged that most famous cricketers have roots in tape ball cricket. The Governor announced plans to organize Premier Leagues for women and special children, highlighting the role of sports and entertainment in building a healthy society. He praised the organization of the Karachi Tap Ball Premier League as a positive step towards recognizing and nurturing the abundant talent in Pakistan.
The Governor assured his ongoing support for the promotion of cricket in the province. The event also featured speeches from Javed Miandad, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates Bakhit Atiq Al Rumithi, Haroon Al Rasheed, Sadiq Muhammad, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Zaheer Naseer, emphasizing the importance of grassroots sports initiatives in discovering and honing local talent.
