Islamabad, In a proactive step to support agricultural activities, the Federal Minister for Industries, Production and National Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, announced the importation of 200,000 metric tons of urea to guarantee an uninterrupted supply for farmers during the upcoming sowing season. This decision was made during a high-level committee meeting aimed at reviewing and ensuring the stability of the fertilizer supply chain and pricing within the country.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting saw the participation of other federal ministers, Members of the National Assembly, and several secretaries, who discussed various measures to manage fertilizer distribution effectively. Minister Hussain emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing fertilizer smuggling and ensuring fair distribution at affordable prices. He outlined plans for strict monitoring of fertilizer dealers and distributors to curb black marketing.
The strategy includes stringent actions against those involved in the illegal fertilizer trade to ensure transparency and protect the farmers’ interests. Minister Hussain called on provincial authorities to support the federal government’s efforts by closely monitoring fertilizer distributors and dealers within their regions.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to stopping the exploitation of farmers by the fertilizer mafia, ensuring timely access to fertilizers, and maintaining transparency and accountability within the distribution system. The minister’s closing remarks assured farmers of the government’s resolve to meet their fertilizer needs efficiently and equitably.
