Islamabad, A high-powered committee established by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has proposed significant reforms aimed at reducing government expenditure through the closure, merger, or transfer of various government departments to provincial authorities.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the committee, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and including key secretaries and advisors, presented a set of recommendations during a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. These proposals include the introduction of a contributory pension system, the abolition of long-vacant positions, the enhancement of private sector participation in public services, and the restriction of non-essential travel and perks for government officials. The recommendations are part of a broader strategy to streamline government operations and significantly reduce fiscal burdens on the national treasury.
