Islamabad: A fire at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of PIMS Hospital has resulted in the deaths of fourteen newborn babies, according to initial reports suggesting the blaze was caused by a short circuit.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhary stated that the fire quickly spread through the unit due to the presence of gas cylinders, gas lines, and plastic instruments. The incident has been described by the Minister as a major tragedy, highlighting the severe impact on the families and the hospital community. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, as authorities seek to prevent such incidents in the future.
