Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb underscored the severe problem of child stunting in Pakistan during his speech at the high-level event ‘Growing Stronger: An Urgent Call to Improve Child Nutrition.’ The gathering took place in Washington DC last Friday, organized by the World Bank.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Aurangzeb emphasized a multi-sectoral and whole-of-government approach to combat this health crisis. He noted the particular vulnerability of children in rural areas and stressed the need for systemic reforms. These include changes in taxation, cutting energy subsidies, and better management of state-owned enterprises to free up resources for climate change initiatives, population control, and specifically reducing child stunting rates.
Aurangzeb’s remarks highlighted the urgency of integrating child nutrition into the broader framework of government policy to ensure a healthier future for Pakistan’s youngest citizens.
