ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting led by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan focused on strengthening the Axle Load Control Regime (ALCR) to address the growing challenge of road infrastructure damage due to vehicle overloading. Heads of key organizations, including the National Highway Authority (NHA) and Motorway Police, joined the meeting, where it was revealed that 30,000 axle load violations have been recorded in the past six months.

According to Press Information Department, the Minister has mandated immediate amendments to the NHA’s legal framework to tackle existing legal and operational barriers. The directive aims to ensure that vehicle owners and factories responsible for overloading trucks face heavy fines. Additionally, the Minister called for the automation of the weigh station system to streamline operations and reduce delays. Modern cameras and artificial intelligence will be utilized to monitor and track non-compliant vehicles.

The meeting also addressed the strategic development at Karachi Port, with a long-term plan for the next two decades. Minister Khan emphasized his commitment to personally inspecting several motorway locations to ensure the implementation of these measures.
