Federal Minister Hails ADB-NHA Agreement on M6 Motorway Project

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has formally welcomed the signing of an agreement between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the National Highway Authority (NHA) for the construction of the M6 Motorway, which will connect Karachi to Sukkur. The Minister described the project as crucial for Pakistan’s development and an important step toward economic prosperity.

According to Press Information Department, the Minister emphasized that the M6 Motorway is the “missing economic link” in the country’s North-South corridor, and its completion is essential for sustainable national growth. The project, which had been stalled for over 30 years, was initiated by the government within two years of focused effort.

The M6 Motorway aims to revolutionize Pakistan’s transport network by enabling seamless travel from Karachi Port to Peshawar and Gilgit through a continuous motorway system. The 306-kilometer-long, six-lane project will include modern tolling and safety systems, with 15 interchanges and 10 service areas to support travelers and transporters.

The project will be divided into key sections, with the Hyderabad to Nawabshah stretch developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to ensure transparency and attract private investment. Additionally, the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund have approved financing for three other sections. The entire M6 project is expected to be completed within the next two years.

Minister Abdul Aleem Khan stated that linking Karachi’s ports to northern regions is a national priority that will open new investment opportunities and enhance regional trade connectivity for Pakistan.
