Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, in a message marking Earth Day, underscored the urgent need for collective action to address environmental challenges, highlighting the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet” as a call for unified efforts. He emphasized that the survival and well-being of the Earth depend on humanity’s collaborative endeavors.
According to Senate of Pakistan, Gilani noted the intensifying impacts of climate change worldwide, with particular focus on Pakistan, where rising temperatures, water scarcity, air pollution, and deforestation present significant threats. He asserted that these challenges require more than policy interventions, calling for meaningful changes in individual behaviors and societal practices.
Gilani pointed out that initiatives such as tree planting, responsible water and energy use, reducing plastic consumption, and cleanliness can collectively contribute to environmental protection. He acknowledged the contributions of educational institutions, civil society organizations, and youth in fostering environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
Highlighting the role of the Upper House, Gilani mentioned the Senate’s progress in environmental protection through legislation and active committee engagement. He noted that ongoing initiatives aim to combat pollution, conserve resources, and promote sustainable development, guiding Pakistan towards a balanced ecosystem.
Gilani stressed the importance of a clean and secure environment for Pakistan’s future, urging the public to view Earth Day as a commitment to continuous environmental responsibility. He concluded by stating that collective efforts towards positive action can lead to a sustainable and prosperous future, fulfilling humanity’s responsibility to the planet.
