Chairman Senate Calls for Collective Action on Earth Day


Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani emphasized the urgent need for global and local efforts to protect the environment in his Earth Day message, underscoring the theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” He highlighted how collective efforts are essential for the planet’s survival and well-being amid escalating climate change impacts.



According to Press Information Department, Gilani noted the visible effects of climate change in Pakistan, such as rising temperatures, water scarcity, air pollution, and deforestation, which pose threats to the environment and future generations. He stressed that addressing these issues requires changes in individual behavior and societal lifestyles, beyond just policy measures.



The Chairman Senate advocated for actions like tree plantation, responsible water and energy use, reducing plastic consumption, and promoting cleanliness, which cumulatively can significantly impact environmental protection. He commended educational institutions, civil society organizations, and the youth for their role in fostering environmental awareness and sustainable practices.



Gilani also pointed out the Senate’s progress in environmental protection through legislation, committee engagement, and policy oversight. He mentioned several initiatives aimed at combating pollution, conserving resources, and promoting sustainable development that are under consideration to guide the country towards a balanced ecosystem.



Concluding his message, Gilani urged the public to view Earth Day as a commitment to continuous environmentally responsible living, asserting that collective positive action can achieve a sustainable and secure future.
