Federal Minister Addresses Sugar Price Concerns, Emphasizes Uniform Enforcement Across Provinces

Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired a meeting to address concerns over sugar prices, stressing the need for uniform enforcement of agreed rates across Pakistan. The meeting, attended by senior officials and representatives from all provinces, aimed to ensure compliance with the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association’s (PSMA) agreed wholesale price of Rs. 159 per kg.

Rana Tanveer Hussain refuted claims of sugar pricing discrepancies, emphasizing the importance of provincial compliance to prevent price fluctuations. Punjab confirmed the wholesale price at Rs. 159 per kg and the retail price averaging Rs. 164 per kg. Sindh reported a retail price of Rs. 168 per kg, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ex-mill price was noted at Rs. 164 per kg.

The minister urged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to adhere to the agreed wholesale price. Balochistan representatives noted a declining trend in sugar prices, reporting a current rate of Rs. 168 per kg.

Rana Tanveer Hussain insisted that any deviation from the agreed prices is unacceptable. He instructed provincial governments to enforce the wholesale price of Rs. 159 per kg and the retail price of Rs. 164 per kg strictly, with daily monitoring and action against violations.

The Government of Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is focused on public welfare. The Ministry of National Food Security and Research is committed to ensuring price stability and food security, coordinating closely with provinces to protect consumer interests and prevent market manipulation.
