Islamabad: The National Assembly announced a campaign to enroll out-of-school children in the Federal Capital Territory, as discussed on Tuesday. The initiative aims to integrate these children into educational institutions and is part of a broader government strategy that includes collaboration with provincial authorities.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister of State for Education Wajiha Qamar outlined the federal government’s efforts, which feature an accelerated learning program and a shift towards technical education. The introduction of middle-tech, matric-tech, and inter-tech programs is designed to improve student retention. Additionally, an education voucher program has been introduced to financially assist children from underprivileged families.
The session also saw the National Assembly commend Samar Khan, a Pakistani adventure athlete, for summiting Mount Elbrus and snowboarding down. The recognition highlighted her achievements in adventure sports, such as cycling across the Biafo and Godwin Austen Glaciers and on Mount Kilimanjaro. The House praised her for bringing international acclaim to Pakistan and inspiring young women nationwide.
In legislative matters, the Polio Eradication and Rehabilitation Bill was introduced by Syed Waseem Hussain. The Assembly also passed the Islamabad Capital Territory (Prohibition of Plastic Book Covers) Bill, 2026, and The Anti-Rape Investigation and Trial Amendment Bill, 2025. The session is scheduled to reconvene at eleven a.m. tomorrow.
