Islamabad, 11 Oct 2023:In the wake of escalating violence in Gaza, Pakistan’s Caretaker Federal Cabinet has articulated a clear demand for an immediate cessation of bombardment and an end to the enduring illegal siege of the territory, calling for the international assistance to be allowed into Gaza to aid victims. The decision unfolded during a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, wherein a strong condemnation was issued against the Israeli bombardment on unarmed Palestinians and concerns were raised about the palpable shortage of essential resources like food and water in Gaza.
In a media briefing held in Islamabad this evening, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi, accompanied by Minister for Privatization Fawad Hassan Fawad, delved into the Federal Cabinet’s stances and decisions. Solangi conveyed that the cabinet underscored the recent tension as a repercussion of Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territories for the past two decades, and a manifestation of oppression against Palestinians, in explicit violation of UN Security Council Resolutions.
The Federal Cabinet reinstated Pakistan’s principled position that a viable, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine should be established, grounded in pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, respecting both UN resolutions and the will of the Palestinian people. Moreover, Solangi communicated Prime Minister Kakar’s directive to federal ministers to constrain their foreign trips to those of absolute necessity.
In other decisions, the cabinet sanctioned the appointment of Justice retired Sohail Nasir as Deputy Chairman and Syed Ehtisham Qadir Shah as Prosecutor General of the National Accountability Bureau. Moreover, the cabinet greenlit the hiring of a Financial Advisory Consortium for the privatization of the Pakistan International Airlines.
This meeting and the resultant decisions underscore a staunch stance by the Pakistani government, not only in the international geopolitical landscape but also in its internal administrative and policy matters.
