Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened the 16th meeting of the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) to assess the monsoon situation and national preparedness strategies. Under the directive of the Prime Minister, the meeting took place at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC), chaired by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, via video link. Attendees included Federal Minister for Water Resources, Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, and representatives from Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and other relevant federal bodies.

According to the Press Information Department, the ERC evaluated various aspects of the monsoon situation, including weather forecasts, river flows, and potential impacts. A thorough briefing was presented by the NEOC, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and coordination among federal and provincial agencies. Provincial authorities provided updates on their readiness, including the availability of rescue resources and emergency stocks, as well as evacuation planning.

The meeting underscored the significance of maintaining uninterrupted communication and timely dissemination of early warnings. It highlighted the necessity for pre-positioning relief resources and ensuring the operational readiness of response agencies in vulnerable districts. The importance of proactive measures at the district level to minimize risks and safeguard communities was also stressed, with an emphasis on maintaining close coordination among all relevant departments and agencies.
