Election Commission of Pakistan Establishes Facilitation Center for Independent Candidates

Islamabad, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a significant step to streamline the process for independent candidates seeking to affiliate with a political party post-election. A dedicated facilitation center has been set up at the Election Commission Secretariat to assist these candidates in formalizing their party affiliations, reflecting the ECP’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and organization within the newly elected assemblies.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the facilitation center, located in room 107 of the Election Commission Secretariat, is now operational. Independent candidates wishing to join a political party are required to submit a letter issued by the head of the party of their choice, accompanied by the original affidavit of the candidate. This procedure is designed to validate and record the affiliation of independent candidates, enabling them to participate fully in parliamentary activities and party dynamics.

This move comes in the wake of recent elections, where a significant number of independent candidates were elected to various legislative bodies. The establishment of the facilitation center is part of the ECP’s efforts to encourage a more structured and cohesive legislative environment, where elected representatives can effectively contribute to the governance and legislative process within the framework of their respective political parties.

The facilitation center is expected to play a crucial role in the coming days as independent candidates make their party affiliations official, impacting the balance of power and the formation of the government at both national and provincial levels.
