Islamabad, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has categorically dismissed claims made by the Rawalpindi Commissioner regarding the chief election commissioner’s directives to alter election outcomes.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the ECP’s spokesperson emphasized that no orders were issued to the Rawalpindi Commissioner to modify any election results. The statement further elucidated that division commissioners do not have a direct role in the electoral process, nor do they serve as District Returning Officers (DROs), Returning Officers (ROs), or presiding officers. The commission has announced an investigation into these allegations to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
Islamabad, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar emphasized the importance of legal channels for addressing electoral concerns, underscoring the readiness of Pakistan’s legislative, judicial, and executive branches to deliver impartial justice. This statement comes in the wake of the recently conducted General Elections, which have been marked by significant participation across all demographics, reflecting a step forward in the nation’s democratic process.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Kakar highlighted the significant turnout in the elections, noting it as a positive indicator of democratic engagement recognized internationally. He stressed the essential nature of victory and defeat within democratic systems, urging all stakeholders to accept the outcomes as fundamental aspects of the process.
Kakar also reaffirmed the right to peaceful protest and assembly but warned against any actions that could lead to agitation, violence, or vigilantism. With a firm stance on maintaining order, he declared that any form of disorder would be met with strict legal actions to prevent the exploitation of the situation by hostile forces aiming to destabilize the country.
The Prime Minister’s statement comes at a critical juncture as political parties engage in discussions to form new governments at the federal and provincial levels, in line with democratic traditions. Kakar called for patience during this period, expressing hope for a swift and cooperative conclusion to the government formation process, characterized by mutual understanding and respect.
This call to legal action and the emphasis on democratic norms underscore the caretaker government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a smooth transition of power in accordance with the people’s will.
