E-Commerce and Skills Training Key to Boosting Pakistan’s Exports, Says Commerce Minister

Islamabad: Pakistan can significantly enhance its export potential by integrating skills development, e-commerce, and formalizing the economy, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan stated during a meeting with business leaders and development practitioners.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting, led by Taimur Siddique, Director Shahi Group, included key figures such as Nawabzada Mir Muhammad Zarain Khan Magsi, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Balochistan, and representatives from the textile, leather, and trade sectors. The Minister emphasized the country’s strong foundation for export-led growth, especially in textiles, leather, and value-added recycled products.

Khan highlighted Karachi’s strategic advantages like port connectivity and a skilled workforce, stressing the need to connect domestic potential with global markets via policy support and digital platforms. He underscored that training initiatives, particularly those empowering women in Balochistan, should be linked with e-commerce platforms to enable access to international buyers.

Participants discussed innovative marketing strategies, including storytelling-based branding, to enhance the value and visibility of Pakistani products. Khan noted the potential revival of traditional industries such as carpet weaving through modern digital platforms, addressing past challenges of limited market access.

On policy, Khan reiterated the government’s commitment to ease business operations by rationalizing export charges and streamlining regulatory frameworks. He stressed the importance of formalizing the economy to promote fair competition and attract investment.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhance public-private collaboration, strengthen digital trade ecosystems, and foster an enabling environment for businesses and entrepreneurs.
