Islamabad: A transshipment vessel, M.V. Shou Long 618, has docked at Gwadar Port, marking a significant development in Pakistan’s efforts to establish itself as a regional maritime hub. The vessel, which was originally destined for Kuwait, carried 16,077 metric tonnes of cargo, including 13,059 packages of Chinese-origin industrial equipment and pipes.
According to Press Information Department, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the arrival of the vessel, emphasizing that it is the first such cargo vessel to call at Gwadar in May. This event follows four transshipment vessel calls at the port in April, indicating a steady increase in operations and reinforcing Gwadar’s role as an alternative hub amidst regional navigational challenges.
The minister also noted that the Gwadar Port Authority has been efficiently managing berthing, cargo operations, and documentation, showcasing the port’s capability to handle complex logistics. He highlighted the strategic location of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea, describing it as a secure gateway for trade to the Gulf region and beyond.
